(ASCEND) New feature request/fix - comments please ??

Ok, after quite a bit of discussion with a few people here on the
list and elsewhere....

The requirement is to be able to allocate user groups (for want of a
better term).

The whole thing revolves around "called number"

using Australia for the example, we get a 100 number allocation for
our PRI's and seeing that the number 00 to 99 appear in each of these
allocations per POP it should work, but extra input for the ascend
folks to see would be appreciated....

Lets always set 99 as the last two digits dialed to always be our
"general" dialup users numbers and always user-group-A

now for the example lets look at only one pop with 4 PRI's, thats 120
channels.

The capability we are looking for is this...

User-Group-A = 90 (number 99)
User-Group-B = 20 (number 50)
User-Group-C = 20 (number 20)

Now the maximum number of callers to number 99 which will be
accepted is set 90
the maximum to number 50 is set 20

if caller 21 to group B rings in the caller is sent busy.

if caller 91 to group A rings in the caller is sent busy.

assuming both group A & group B is full, you can now only have 10
callers to Group C, but any excess is taken from Group A if there is
the number of callers to Group A is at that time less than 90, thus
effectively dynamically reducing Group A to <90 according to how many
callers to Group C.

In the example, Group B has been set not to be dynamic, so is always
set to 20 callers, thus if you only have 19 users ever assigned to
group B, you will always have a minimum of 1 channel always available
at that pop.

Once you do grasp the idea which at least I do find at times hard to
describe, you will then see that what we want to play with is the
equivalent on a PABX to handling direct indial and answer groups.

I have explained this to Kevin, (but maybe not so clear) and from
information to hand NO access server vendor is offerring anything
like what we want unless you want to put a pri splitter in front of
your max's (jtec do make a beast).

So maybe if enough support is shown here, indiscussion we can then
put forward a feature request.

Gary
