RE: (ASCEND) bad authenticator
Have USR/3COM build the packets right, per the RFC.
The problem is the accounting packets are NOT getting the authenticator
field built.
it's a 3com issue. (I had a LIVINGSTON issue like this 2 years ago).

Subject: (ASCEND) bad authenticator
Hey there,
I recently noticed the following errors being logged by our radius
server:
authenticateAcctReq: net-serv1.virtual-impact.com.1645, id=0: bad
authenticator
the above error repeats with 'id' equal to 44, 43, 41, 40, 38, 37,
15 and 14 every two minutes.
net-serv1 is a US Robotics NETServer/8.
A tcpdump doesn't show me anything more informative:
net-serv1.virtual-impact.com.radius > net-admin.virtual-impact.com.radacct:
udp
92
(this gets repeated for each of the 'id' fields listed above, every
two minutes ... obviously corresponding to the radius logs.
What I'd like to know is what the 'bad authenticator' is refering to so
I can make an attempt at fixing this. By the way, is there some listing
of radius errors/warnings and their associated meanings anywhere?
Anyone happen to know what the NETServer would be querying the radius
server for every 2 minutes? It's definately not user authentication
because nobody is logged in, or attempting to, while these
errors are occuring.
Thanks,
Corey
