(ASCEND) Max 4048 dialup problems staying connected with 56k modem

Hi Everyone,

I have been setting up my first Max 4048 this weekend from home and I
managed to get my T1 settings correct and my channels assigned to the
correct 56k modem card (thanks to Andy Walden for all his help!). Now when I
dial up into the Max 4048 it picks up and logs me in, but after a short
while it disconnects. It might be a minute or 15 minutes, at random (I've
been dropped 6 time while writing this message). Sometimes the modem doesn't
seen to transmit very well or at all. It's as if the modem is retraining a
lot (I've been connecting at 42000), the modem will pause now and then. I'm
using my laptop, a Sony Vaio 505 with a "Sony Internal Modem (RCVDL56ACFL)"
modem. When I dial into my anolog equipment I can stay connected for days...
but the MAX is minutes.

I'm sure it's a setting that I forgot someplace, any ideas? What might cause
this type of problem, could it be a timing issue with my T1? Or a PPP
setting?

Thanks for all your help,

Randy Smith
