(ASCEND) Reloading software on P50 (near wits end)

Well, I'm just about ready to chuck this little P50 in the dumpster
at this point (in fact, if it was mine and not a clients, I think I might
have already). Basically, the P50 was set up (a couple of years
back) by someone who no longer works for them, and nobody has
any idea what the passwords (Full access or SNMP communities)
might be.

So I went through the procedure of jumpering P6, erasing the flash
memory, and reloading the software through a terminal program, all
with Ascend tech support on the line (not mentioning the fact that I
finally got them on the line about an hour ago on a call I made last
Thursday - oops, I did mention it d:). Anyway, ef seemed to work
fine, and df seemed to reload the software, and I foolishly let the
support person go *before* I restarted the P50 - when I did, I
discovered it hadn't changed a damn thing. I've done the whole
erase/download procedure about 6 times now, and I tried verifying
that the memory was erased with cf (it was) and reprogrammed
after df (it was). I'm wondering, am I loading the right software?

The 00-100 Sys Option window shows the following:

 Security Prof: 1
>Software +4.6C+
 S/N: 7035066
 Up: 00:00:29:55
 Access Router
 Load: p50bri
 Switched Installed
 Frm Rel Installed
 Sec Acc Not Inst
 Dyn Bnd Not Inst
 ISDN Sig Installed

The software I'm loading is from Ascend's ftp site at:

/pub/Software-Releases/Pipeline/Archive/Release-4.6C/p50brib.bin

Can anyone confirm if this is the correct file to be loading, or
should I be using something else? I've also tried the p50bria.bin file,
but it only gets abouthalfway through and the load quits (not
suprising as it's twice the size of p50bria.bin). I figured it made the
most sense to start off by loading 4.6C since that's what is on the
P50 already, and I can always upgrade down the road if need be,
but if it is a better idea to load in more recent software, I'm game
for that as well.

Absolutely any suggestions would be appreciated (especially if
someone can tell me specifically where a file is I ought to be using
d:)

Thanks in advance,

Barry

"Now, a few words on looking for things. When you go looking
for something specific, your chances of finding it are very
bad, because, of all the things in the world, you're only
looking for one of them. When you go looking for anything at
all, your chances of finding it are very good, because, of
all the things in the world, you're sure to find some of them.
And the most important rule; often the thing you're looking
for is right in front of your nose."
