RE: (ASCEND) Zoom 1.002A code
The client modems have no restrictions at all on speed. It's the USR
RAS server that will limit the transmit speed to comply with the power
level ceiling going into the PSTN. Should the FCC revisit this issue in
Part 15, all USR has to do is update the TCR code and remove the
restriction on the top symbol rate power levels.
Rockwell/Lucent has a slightly different algorithm for doing 56K and
they claim they do not exceed the input power level ceiling. I'm sure
that this is true as USR would have jumped all over their butts in
public if it were not true.
