Sure you can do this in three easy steps. 

Set up a Radius entry like this:

username        Password = "UNIX"
        	User-Service-Type = Login-User,
        	Login-Service = Rlogin,
        	Login-Host = (Unix Server IP)

Add your max to /etc/hosts.equiv (So the Max can rlogin)

Go to the Ascend config..

Ethernet->Mod Config->Tserv Options->TS Enabled=Yes
Ethernet->Mod Config->Tserv Options->Security=Partial

That should be all you need to do and it won't affect 
your regular PPP/SLIP users.
