Heads up... this wasn't a microsloth issue at all!
Turns out that with an external TA (Motorola bitsurfer pro) you have
a sync/async problem. Ascend suggested it and I found confirmation on
the Motorola website. Apparently the bitsurfer does async ISDN,
which the max converts to sync before processing PPP (Or after, whatever.
Either way, the max has to do an extra conversion) However, there is
no flag to specify this conversion on an OUTGOING call, so thats why
I saw the recieve light locked on solid, it was a sync/async problem.
(Joy. Anyone know a good doc on sync/async? looks like I have to catch
up on it to figure how to fix this)
So, any ISPs here that provide ISDN dialup might want to take notice of
this headache before you are asked to provide the calling side of a nailed
up connection... apparently any PeeCee ISDN TAs have this problem.
Motorola may have a fix, looks like I'll be trading a pipeline 50 for a
bitsurfer and fixing it for my customer now. ;-(
