well it is really a shame, what ascend make here!
we were using 2 MAX4000 to connect a E1 (2 Mbit/sec) leased line
to save a X21<-> G703 Converter for the time. Since we use internally only
bgp and the MAX doesnt support this, we tried to put all the static routes
into the max :-)
At least every 10-20 minutes i saw ping times from 3000ms from the
cisco to the max on the same ethernet!.
after serveral hours of debugging etc we decided to buy a X21 <-> G703
Converter, use cisco, put all stuff in a nice ascii-like tftp file, boot
it to the cisco and voila it works fine now.

ascend is fine to let your customers call in, but it is no router!
Without BGP Support, you never will have a good chance in the router market!

even without bgp support, ascend should find a solution how to out a huge
number of routes (100-200 routes) into the max without using rip, ospf
or something like that.
(yes it works with ospf, but i dont want to use ospf since it would be
only for my ascends...)

the cisco config file is a really good example, how to solve this problem.
acends accepts only its fixed configuration format.
