Just tell them you want a PRI aka S2m. The standard for this (electrical
and bitwise, aka layer 1) is I.430 from the ITU (former CCITT), and it is
pretty exact on what is a PRI and what not. The PRI is a Network Terminator
(almost like the one for a BRI) that somehow connects to the Telco and that
offers you a G.703 interface to plug your single TE on it. The PRI has
32 Timeslots (Channels), TS 0 is used for TE<->NT signaling, TS 16 is used
as the D-Channel (usually, when it is a single PRI/S2m). If we are talking
about - uhm - T1, the matter is similar, but a bit more complicated.
However, it is still I.430 and should face you with a G.703. Make your
cable to the Ascends RJ45 and you will be connected.
The most noticeable problem with PRI installation (at least here in .de)
is that you have to tell the telco to install a power supply for the
PRI NT (NTPM). They seem to know nothing but PBXes yet, and PBXes can
provide the PS for the NTPM (yes vice versa to the BRI). The Ascend
of course does not (FR ? ... ;-)
The whole hassle starts with the D-Channel protocol to use. But thats an
issue we can't discuss here without more info.
