(ASCEND) Re: pipel130 for remote pop
>From a heck of alot of expirience with p130's and lots of other
alternatives, I would NOT recomend a P130 in a 'core' router situation. It
is just way too unstable, and unreliable.
For example, the biggest single problem is the fact that when the T1
goes down and back up. Often, the router will need to be reset or even
powercycled!!!! Not very reliable for a remote pop situation!
Another weird prob I have seen when the T1 is down, the P130's will go
into a reset loop. Every 10 seconds it reboots! I have seen that on the
newr software releases. Different units, and even differnet software.
If you need something that can be relied upon without ANY worries, go
with a Cisco/Adtran combo. A cisco 2514 and an Adtran TSU (thats the
model yes) should suite your needs just fine. We have a "bizillion" of
them all over our infrastructure, and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER have any
problems! =)
Pipelines are nice cheap lightweight routers that can be an alternative,
for small businesses customers, etc. But not for a network infrastructure.
