I've learned to stick with Arch through good and bad for over ten
years now, but I don't blame you for leaving :-)

Is the Infinality patchset available in OpenSuse? I've always gone
with that on Arch. Also, Ubuntu has some of their own patchsets for
freetype and fontconfig as well, worth checking out.

When you say looking like a CRT on an LCD sounds an awful lot like
incorrect resolution or driver. What graphics chipset / driver are you
using?

Re: gnome3, I tried it for two months late fall and it's still too
buggy for me, but the font rendering seemed fine. Been back and happy
with xfce4 for now.
