Just wanted to clarify that if you don't do anything special then syslog
messages are almost certainly going to localhost/current machine.  In a past
life I had to deal with sending syslog messages to central logging hosts.  I
think regardless of what the target is, syslog uses sockets.  I'll shut up
now. :)
