Archlinux lets you customize your Linux system very well, and has an
up to date WindowMaker package. I've been hooked on this distro for
the past 10 years. It isn't for beginners, but they have an excellent
getting started wiki and support community. A great way to really
learn the guts of Linux but without the requirement of compiling
packages.
