Well, apologies to all. Just learned that when a new operating system is installed, the ip may change, but network integrity is maintained. Where 192.168.1.2 existed, the new ubuntu 10.04 assigned ip 192.168.1.66, and the older computer was changed, using the same iso file, to 192.168.1.67. Magical stuff, these computers.
