For dealing with Windows and Microsoft Office without getting into
full on programming VBScript or Windows PowerShell scripts are most
likely your best bets.

You can turn up an example for doing just about anything you can think
of with VBScript. PowerShell is Microsoft's newer scriping technology
but there are no shortage of examples out there. If you were going to
pick one to learn I'd go with PowerShell. That seems to be the future
of scripting on Windows.
