Why are you worried about security on your home network?  You do have a
high security setting on your DSL router, right?  Are you putting in a
WiFi router?  Do you have control over who connects to your switch?

As long as you can trust that no is getting through your firewall (i.e.
your DSL router), it shouldn't matter what you use internally.  SSH will
probably work best for occational stuff.  Switch to NFS if you start to
share stuff more.
