I need to go to root to edit this file > (and a few other things). Ubuntu doesn't use a root account at all. Instead, the account you made during install has permission to sudo any command. To edit your apt configuration: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list It will prompt for a password, so enter the password for the account you are logged into. You will then have permission to save your edits. Ian -- Ian Stoner Philosophy Department University of Minnesota http://www.tc.umn.edu/~ston0235/
