I recently bought a 512MB stick of PC2700 Crucial RAM. But I only seem
to have about 450-some MB of memory: when I run 'free' I get
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 451716 295120 156596 0 86396 107672
-/+ buffers/cache: 101052 350664
Swap: 1004020 0 1004020
A similar number shows up when I boot the machine. That's something like
441 MB. So, I'm missing almost 71MB of RAM. Is some of this being used
for video memory, or do I have a bad chip? I've run memtest on it, and
it checks out (...and reports the smaller-than-512 number).
Thoughts?
