Apologies if this comes through twice. I think i forgot to 'reply to all' on my last one though. The "lock screen" menu item looks like it can be removed like this: * fire up gconf-editor * navigate to apps > panel > global * select checkbox for "disable lock screen" Kind of hack-y (in that there doesn't seem to be a user-visible preference for it), but it seems to work fine for me.
