Turning off GPM as a service seams to have fixed the problem.

I remember when the updates from Red Hat Network ran that GPM was one of 
the things updated.

I would guess it's a problem with the this laptop rather then with the 
GPM code.  I really don't need GPM
much I don't use the mouse in the console.
