I'm running Mandrake Linux, installed 9.0, upgraded to 9.1, on a General
Nanosystems machine, soundcard SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator, sound
module snd-intel8x0.

When I am under KDE (3.1, I think), the sound card doesn't work in my
browser (Mozilla), and none of the 'K' audio or video programs work.
GnomeCD and Aumix work fine.

Logged in under Gnome, the sound in Mozilla works fine - I needed to get
it working to view the clip on jibjab.com.

When I try to start artsd, or use any KDE related sound, I get a 'device
busy' message.

Also, when shutting down, I sometimes get error messages like, 'unable
to find sndcard03..' or like that - I don't have the exact message
written down.

I've Googled on this, and it seems that others have had a problem like
this with KDE 3.2, but I have been unable to find any solution.

So, two questions, one specific, one general
- does anyone have a solution for this KDE problem?
- when I get a 'device is busy' message for any device, how do I go
about finding out who or what has it locked?

Thanks for any pointers or feedback... I'm getting to know just enough
about Linux to realize how much I don't know.

Cheers,

Charlie Obert
