[TCLUG] MythTV, pleasant or pain?

I kept wanting to build my own MythTV box because I didn't want to pay for a
subscription and found out that equipment for a new system would run me
about $500.  I found an unadvertised deal at Best Buy. 

At Best Buy, about a week ago, I bought a Toshiba DVD player with Tivo built
in (which uses Linux kernel with proprietary drivers) for $399 with a 10%
discount and lifetime subscription to Tivo's Basic Service.  This came with
the 80 gig hard drive.  I just plugged the unit in and had it dial Tivo.

Be aware that the basic service limits a lot of features that MythTV will
give you.

Anyone have any experience with MythTV?  Likes/dislikes?  Any other
solutions you like better?

I'm primarily interested in building collections of shows to burn to
dvd later.  Just purchased an ATI AIW 9000 Pro, which I'd have to
return as they are not supported.  The program seems to be slicker
than snot, but would love some user feedback before I start tearing my
system appart and purchasing new hardware specifically for this
purpose.
