Its the 96MB of RAM that is killing you. I've run Redhat 9.0 with KDE on 
a couple of 333 PIIs and it ran reasonably well but they had 192MB and 
512MB of memory.

One option is to bag KDE and use one of the less resource intensive 
windowing systems like Blackbox.
