Depending on your controller and chassis, there is the option of having
hot spares that are automatically added to the raid if one of the drives
fails.

The best insurance you can get for a RAID array is extra disks setup as
hot spares or kept in a handy storage area. $250 to have an extra bit of
protection on hand is quite easy to justify.
