I've had bad experiences with C-Media.

Their audio quality is just crap.

I have an older Ensoniq based Creative labs card that you can have for
$5

It's PCI.

It's basic stereo with no real frills, but the audio quality is pretty
good.

has worked flawlessly in one of my linux systems for both playback and
