Not sure what you mean by 'more visual', but here's a little tip: Nano and it's cousin Pico have a nasty way of breaking system configuration files unless they are run with the -w switch. Read the nano manpage for details on what this does.

If you need to just view a file, not edit it.. use 'less' or 'more' - they can't change the file, they are only viewers.
