The Pico interface sucks.  It doesn't even have search and replace.  If you
want an editor that is easy to use, yet has many powerful features, try JOE.

If you use JOE, you will probably want to enable the "nobackups" option.  It
creates backups by default.  You also might check out my init file for an
example on how to customize it:
