You might have more luck with a simpler web server such as Boa, thttpd or
publicfile.  Apache's configuration is very complex compared to other HTTP
servers (even Zeus).  With the three servers I listed, you simply tell them
the IP address, port and document root directory.  No need to mess with
other stuff.
