A fraction is division.  To convert 5/4 you would divide five by four,
getting 1.25.  Windows comes with a calculator.  On UNIX you have bc, or my
favorite, the interactive Python interpreter (simply run "python").

The software installer clearly indicates that it is going to install
companion software, both on the initial screen and in the license agreement.
There is evil spyware out there, but this certainly isn't an example of it.
