I used to use grip, but like nate mentioned already, the dependence on gnome libraries drove me away. Now I use crip (http://bach.dynet.com/crip/) and i like it much more that i liked grip. I prefer the [default] naming scheme it uses and several other little things. If you're still looking for software I would check it out.
