I know I frequently forget that I'm in a directory that has been mounted
while I'm trying to unmount. Often, I'll su to root to mount, go back
to a normal user, then cd to /cdrom or wherever, finish up some stuff,
then su to unmount, and forget that I was still in /cdrom/<blah>.

You might be able to find out what program is running on a mounted
filesystem by running `lsof | grep /cdrom' (or replace /cdrom by your
mountpoint). Of course, this requires lsof to be installed, and it
often isn't..
