If you have choppy video, make sure your dvd-rom has DMA enabled.  I
installed one last night, and the video was very choppy.  It turns out that
it was using PIO instead of DMA.  After getting DMA to work on it, it works
flawlessly, completely smooth.

I use ogle under gentoo:
emerge media-video/ogle

It installs the decss libs and everything.
