For me, OpenOffice doesn't work worth anything under Linux - it's just too much a resource hog. I literally can't even do simple editing of a spreadsheet under it on either my desktop (P3-866, 512mb) or my laptop (P3-500, 512mb).. I've switched to koffice for most of my real work.
