the simple way to check if there's a DNS server at least listening; is to
telnet to port 53.

chrome at steel:~$ telnet 65.193.16.1 53
Trying 65.193.16.1...
Connected to 65.193.16.1.
Escape character is '^]'.

looks like Real-Time's DNS server is working. :)
