Thanks! Right after sending that message I stumbled on smbtar and I am going to try using that. I am not sure how the archive bit works, but thought I'd start the incremental process by using the -N option with a logfile. For those who are interested, I did find a small bug with smbtar --- it doesn't accept the workgroup option to smbclient, which people may want. I made a quick patch, and would be happy to send the patched script to anyone who wants it. Cheers, R
