XF86Setup (X based) and xf86config (console) do a reasonable job of
configuring XFree 3.3.X on laptops (and computers in general.) I perfer
XF86Setup myself. But now I'm in Xfree 4.0.2 land, and Debian's config + my
hand tweaking got the job done.
