Thanks to all for the suggestions. I am presently trying out grip with 
notlame, seems to work pretty well. Since I only record my CDs for 
listening in my office (on some basic PC speakers), I decided that ogg 
wasn't really necessary. When I start burning custom music-mix CDs at home, 
then I will definitely try out ogg.
