Makefiles

I saw James make several changes to the Makefiles because makedepend
puts all that junk at the end of the Makefile.

Are most of use using GNU make?

I'd like to make some changes to the Makefiles to include the
depends from an external source so we do not have to worry about have
all the junk at the end of the Makefiles.
