The license still sucked the last I read it. I, for example, could
not take Qt and create a branch for others to work on because the
'patch' clause makes it impractical. I personally don't consider
that acceptable. It is better than it was, but it isn't LGPL.Qt is also restricted based on usage.

That is what they're trying to prevent--you making a branch for
others to work on and features of that branch becoming "standard" without
and OK by the Trolltech folks. It's impractical, but the upside is
that people know exactly what is "official" and what isn't and changes
can't bludgeon themselves in unexpectedly. If there's going to be
an GUI toolkit for developers to make large commercial applications for,
you need to be sure that it's going to be stable to the point of having
large versioning instead of constant minute changes. By having patches
we allow the open source benefit of immediate testing and
improvement without sacrificing a person's ability to have a solid
set of revisions.
