Tim,
do you have a different version of Linux working on this machine? The 'LI'
problem is _very_ common.. usually a geometry mismatch on the drive or
something. Try making the root (or /boot) partition < 500mb, or if it's a
scsi drive, try appending the 'linear' option to lilo.
