odd dpms problems

I have a new computer with power management built into the bios. I
recently rebuild my kernel (2.0.35) with apm and disabled in my bios
automatically going into suspend mode. Now when I press the power button
my pc goes into suspend mode - it cuts power to almost everything but the
hard drive and when I wake it up it is just as I left it. (cron jobs were
supposed to start when in suspend start when I wake it up). Ever since
then, dpms on my monitor (which used to work fine) stopped working except
when I manually put the computer in suspend.

Before xset +dpms worked. Now xset dpms -force suspend works as does xset
dpms 2 4 5 which then puts my monitor in sleep mode very quickly. But if I
use normal settings (xset dpms 300 1800 3600) my monitor never goes to
slepp. I think there is some program that is resetting the timer for dpms,
but I don't know what. I use xautolock to run after 10 minutes and the
works fine, and I often run xlock -mode blank when I'm leaving my computer
for a while to save cpu.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Ben
