Has anyone been able to setup HylaFax ?
Hello all
I installed hylafax-4.0-6.i386.rpm and the installation looked pretty
ok, as far as I can tell. Rebooted the box and the /var/log/messages
shows:
Jul 3 23:19:37 localhost FaxQueuer[197]: HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.0pl1
Jul 3 23:19:37 localhost FaxQueuer[197]: Copyright (c) 1990-1996 Sam

Jul 3 23:19:45 localhost PAM_pwdb[219]: (login) session opened for user

Jul 3 23:19:55 localhost FaxGetty[225]: MODEM USROBOTICS SPORTSTER

Jul 3 23:21:14 localhost FaxQueuer[197]: SUBMIT JOB 9
Jul 3 23:21:19 localhost FaxGetty[225]: ANSWER: Can not lock modem
device
Jul 3 23:21:25 localhost FaxSend[297]: MODEM USROBOTICS SPORTSTER V.34+

Jul 3 23:21:25 localhost FaxSend[297]: SEND FAX: JOB 9 DEST 5421893
COMMID 00000008
Jul 3 23:21:45 localhost FaxSend[297]: SEND FAILED: Unspecified
Transmit Phase B error
And "ps aux|grep fax" shows:
uucp 197 0.0 2.2 1972 1040 ? S 23:19 0:00 /usr/sbin/faxq
uucp 225 0.0 2.1 2036 1024 ? S 23:19 0:00
/usr/sbin/faxgetty /d
QUESTION: Shouldn't 'hfaxd' be there at startup ?
----------------------------------------
Even if it is not there, the command "send -n -d 5421893 fax.file" seems
to initiate the fax connection and I can hear the modem dialing out. The
fax machine at the receiving end also responds and it looks like that
the whole thing is working fine. BUT, then the error message shows up in
/var/log/messages and the 'send' fails.
Here is the output of some of the basic test commands in the hylafax
documentation:
nkapoor:/home/nkapoor> faxstat -v
