Running out of shared memory on a 2.2.17 kernel

I keep running out of shared memory under 2.2.17.

With 2.3 or above the mount -t shm works great.

Looking through the docs, it looks like I have to recompile the kernel when you
need more shared memory segments under 2.2.x

Anyone confirm/deny?
