Hidden files with samba

I just had a kinda wierd experience. I copied a boatload of files from a NT
server to a Linux Samba server. (The method was mount the share on my linux
workstation and create a tarball of the files, then scp them to the file
server.)

Anyway, the when I looked at the files through windows they all appeared as
hidden files. I should have check the UNIX permissions, but didn't. Just
turned off the hidden atribute via windows explorer. Anybody have any ideas
as to why something like that would happen?
