That makes me wonder why sometimes one can run gpm and X at the same time,
but others, you cant.  Take for example, slackware 3.4, 4.0, and 7.0... In
3.4, you cant, in 4.0, you cant, but all others (7.0 included), you can.

Quite odd.  I wonder if gpm can optionally leave /dev/mouse unlocked.
