Re: [TCLUG:15379] Computers that save long distance relationships.
I used to be a huge fan of them. But there are so many different versions of
the eepro out there with the same name that i bought like 3 of them and none
of them had 100 support in linux. I was running the 2.2.14 kernel with the
eepro drivers in the kernel and i would always get these errors to the
console saying something about information from the network card, trying to
restart the transmitter. All 3 cards did the same thing. I believe they were
the OEM eepro management cards, even though i didnt order the management
ones.
So i bought 5 3com 905btx's and they are supported by every OS i run. (BeOS
5, Linux, Win98/2000, QNX demo disk once and a while.) We have all realtek
8139's at work, and they never perform well. I was doing an apt-get upgrade
at the same time as my laptop both plugged into the same 10/100 switch and my
laptop was gettin 90-110k download from the same debian mirror my workstation
was getting 50k downloads using the realtek. That and we have had 3 of the 50
that we purchased fail within 1 month. Granted they are only 16$ so they are
cheap to replace, i hate replacing stuff. And the tulip cards like the
netgear fa310 are pretty good, my fathers died after 1 years use. Not sure if
it was the usage or the card. I would buy that again cuz it was inexpensive.
