Red Hat 6.2 ftp install from ftp.real-time.com went perfectly!
I upgraded my RH 6.1 to RH 6.2 last night and am pleased to report that it
went very smoothly!. I used the bootnet.img floppy and ftp'd over a
MediaOne 2-way cable modem to ftp.real-time.com. Took about an hour, very
impressive for 700 meg of RPMs. Would have been much faster if I had paid
attention to the package list; it loaded both KDE and Gnome even though I
didn't have KDE previously installed.
They've improved the network install interface that was so horribly wrong in
6.1: detailed error messages are back! :) For instance, if you mistype the
ftp server path, it shows you! Also that strange question about driver
disks has been moved to the first boot screen instead of coming up in the
middle of the install.
I have not tested any other network-install method such as NFS or SMB
(Windows sharing) and probably won't until I get a CD.
Very little post-install tweaking was necessary. I had to upgrade Timidity
to Timidity++ and download a new version of ttyquake, but that's all I've
encountered. Netscape saved my bookmarks (yay!) and my Gnome desktop stayed
intact.
