It's been my experience that if you expect applications that you are familiar
with on *nixes to work the same when ported to the windows platform, then you
will be let down. If you go into it with an open mind and æxpect them to be a
little hard to get used to, you will be o.k.

My experience with vim on the windows platform wæs depressing at first, it's
just not easy to use in windows as it is in linux. For example when in linux
you are at the command line in a term of some type anyway so to do a 'vim
<filename>' is easy, but to open a dos window, cd to the directory (Wich
always sucks ass in command.com) then run 'vim filename' is a pain. And it's
hard for me as I am not a dos guy, and relate much better to multi-user
operating systems like linux with $HOME dirs and .bashrc's for variables. It's
wierd making the switch witha friendly *nix app to windows.

I even installed the cygwin stuff so I could use bash in windows (no reason,
just to do it) and that was wierd, you have to set up a unix like directory
structure so it can function o.k.

personally, I say always keep a linux machine handy. and use windows for
gaming, and for your wife/kids or other people who could care less about such
things and just wanna do email, and surf.
