If you're ever caught in windows mode and can't get to linux/UNIX mode
right away, it's a real saver.

I was in a crunch about 4 years ago on a saturday afternoon in a M-F 9-5
job, and hadn't learned how to program / hadn't a clue about Linux and
needed an editor that wouldn't crash with large datasets. (I'm dealing
with bibliographic data and some non-ascii characters tossed in
occassionally.)

pfe could only take so much in line length and file size--I needed 10,000
lines and 320 columns wide... and that's what UltraEdit claimed it could do
so I downloaded it and tried it. It does start to get a little dicey as
you go over 15,000 or 16,000 lines, however But I can't say I've ever
really lost data. The screen buffer just has trouble handling it.

$30.00 over the net, the key to open it up came back within the hour I think.
Author is up to version 7.0 -- I'm happy still with 5.x

regex option in search/replace ^t=tab ^p=line ending/"paragraph"

search/replace in multiple files.. projects... files open

converts files from/to DOS/UNIX/MAC (Line endings, ya know... so you don't
come up with ^M when you open with emacs once you're in Linux.

OEM to ANSI and back...
Toggles in/out of HEX mode (Haven't used these)

Cut and paste columns! (Nice!)

Spell check with multi-language dictionaries
Complex capitalization conversion

Page setup and print preview
Other configuration options of keyboard etc.
Color syntax highlighting...

Macro's.......
