I always recommend getting dialup going with minicom first, then
PPP.  This lets you be sure hardware is OK before PPP presents
its own peculiarities.

In file /etc/resolv.conf ('man resolver').

Those go into your PPP dialup script ('man pppd', and consult the
PPP HOWTO).
